
Lancers Pick Up A Pair

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. --- Playing in the Posada Royal Invitational hosted by Cal Lutheran, California Baptist picked up a pair of wins Saturday, beating CSU Bakersfield 9-5 and La Verne 12-8.
In their morning opener against the Roadrunners, who have been hovering around the top 20 all season, CBU was led by two three-goal performances from Alyssa Birch, Laura Kocsis and Petra Kovacs.
With 14 seconds left in the first quarter, Kovacs found the back of the net to force a 1-1 tie at the quarter break. From then on, the Lancers outscored CSUB in each individual quarter.
Following another goal from Kovacs at 5:28, two straight Roadrunner goals pushed for the CSUB lead. Scoring on two consecutive 6-on-5 advantages, Birch scored at 1:22 and 23 seconds left in the half to give CBU the one goal lead at halftime.
CSUB tied the game again at 4 goals each, but a goal from Kocsis at 3:39 put the Lancers ahead for good.
Briana Tryon scored at 1:03, as CBU extended their lead to 6-4 heading into the final eight minutes.
To begin the fourth, Molly Gritchen answered CSUB's quarter-opening goal with a goal of her own at 7:35. Christina Webb scored at 6:18 and Kocsis punched in her second goal with 13 seconds remaining for the game's final score of 9-5.
Goalkeeper Leticia Perez tallied five saves.
Later in the day, CBU beat La Verne 12-8.
