After defeating NCAA D-III No. 7 Whittier 13-7 earlier in the day, CBU closed the Claremont Convergence tournament with the 11-10 victory over the host Sagehens.
After the Lancers went up 4-0, the Sagehens scored four unanswered goals heading into the half to even the contest. The two teams stayed within one goal of each other the rest of the way.
Mallory Montano put the Lancers up 10-9 with 2:13 left in the fourth quarter, but Alyssa Woodward evened the contest 46 seconds later, setting up the late game heroics for the Lancers.
As the clock crept under a minute the Sagehens were awarded a 5-meter attempt and it was again Woodward that stepped up and looked to save the day for the home team.
With only Rogers in between Pomona and the lead, CBU's senior goalkeeper came up big, as she has so many times in her career, stopping the free attempt and giving the Lancers a shot at the win.
The Lancers went back their hot hand Montano and she did not disappoint, finding the back of the net with 35 seconds left in the game.
The Sagehens had a 6-on-5 opportunity with 20 seconds left, but a final shot went wide and CBU came away with its 10th win of the season. The Lancers are 10-8 this year.
CBU downed the Whittier Poets earlier in the day, going up 6-1 early and holding on for the six-goal win.
With the pair of wins CBU moves above .500 for the first time this season.
CBU hosts the Lancer Invite next weekend.
