RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- In the first day of the Lancer Invite California Baptist University beat both Iona and Marist.
The Lancers beat the Gaels 15-9, although committing 16 exclusions in the game.
In the first quarter the Lancers got off to a hot start leading 5-1, as Petra Kovacs tallied three of the teams five goals in just two minutes of play.
The Gaels would try to make a comeback in the second with three goals from three different players, but the Lancers would respond with three of their own.
Kovacs would come out strong in the third quarter firing off two more goals giving her five in the game. Doris Tran, Christina Young, Tania Acavedo, and Molly Gritchen each scored twice against the Gaels.
Camryn Rogers came up big for the Lancers recording nine saves against the Gaels.
In the second game of the day, the Lancers beat the Red Foxes 8-4.
In the first quarter the Lancers got off to another great start holding the Red Foxes to zero and knocking in three goals by Gritchen, Laura Kocsis, and Young.
Late in the fourth quarter the Red Foxes tried to make a run, but the Lancer defense would hold on to the victory.
Gritchen was the leading scorer against the Red Foxes as she tallied four on the game.
The Lancers will continue play tomorrow with their first game at 9 am against Harvard and their second game at 1:30 pm against CMS.
