GAME ONE: CBU 11-5
GAME TWO: CBU 15-7
RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- California Baptist University played two games on Tuesday at the Lancer Aquatics Center against the Bison of Bucknell University and the Colonials of George Washington University. The Lancers grabbed two home wins over Bucknell University 11-5 , and George Washington University, 15-7.
After a tight first half, CBU dominated the third quarter en route to an 11-5 win over Bucknell to start the day. The Lancers kept their momentum in the nightcap to nab an even more lopsided victory to improve to 9-8 this season.
Combining both games, Meghan Rowland totaled 23 saves, six assists and four steals in the cage.
Versus Bucknell, the Lancers received goals from five different players including Samantha Banks, Courtney Menard, Jessica Castellano and two goals from Paizlee Dreyer. Hannah Evans led the Lancers with six goals against the Bison.
Scoring the first goal of the day against the Bison's but they were followed by the Lancers when Dreyer scored the first goal for the Lancers while Menard followed to help them end the first period 2-2.
Within the last two and a half minutes of the second period approached, Evans scored her first goal of the match and was followed by Dreyer's goal to help the Lancers lead 4-3 against the Bison.
CBU's most productive period came in as Castellano scored the first goal of the third period; she was then followed by Evans four back-to-back goals against the Bison cage to help secure a 9-4 lead. Evans and Banks put it away in the fourth period to give the Lancers the 11-5 victory.
"Bucknell is a very physical team and we really had to work hard to match up, we knew that they always give us a good game," Coach Jon Miller said. "We missed three easy shots in the first quarter, which stressed us out."
The Lancers keep their momentum in the nightcap, when Valerie Spezzaferri scored the first goal for the Lancers but fell 3-1 against the Colonials of George Washington University.
CBU's most productive period came in the second period as it rattled in five goals; Banks, Spezaferri and Evans and all netted goals against the Colonials. Within 9 seconds remaining, Evans helped the Lancers take a 6-4 lead.
"During both games we didn't do well in the first half, we didn't come out as intense as we would of liked," said Miller.
As if it couldn't get any better for the Lancers, five more goals were shot against the Colonials. Castellano, Montano , Paul and Evans each got in on the action to help to reach a 11-7 lead against the Colonials.
CBU increased its lead to 15-7 in the last quarter as Castellano,Iturraran,Evans and Persky put it away in the last quarter to give the Lancers a 15-7 victory against the Colonials.
The Lancers are back in action on Thursday March 12 at 7:00 p.m against IONA then hosts the Lancer Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Lancers Aquatics Center, beginning at 9 a.m.............................
