CBU vs. IONA
RIVERSIDE, Calif.--- California Baptist University continues its winning streak with a 13-5 victory over the Gaels of Iona College at the Lancer Aquatics Center on Thursday night, with Hannah Evans providing most of the scoring punch once again with seven goals on the day.
Within the first two minutes of the first period, Evans scored two goals, the first goal was on an exclusion and was quickly followed by another goal of her own. The period came to an end on a Valerie Spezzaferri goal to help the Lancers hold a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period. CBU's record improves to 10-8 on the season with the victory.
The Lancers had a productive second period when Evans netted three goals, along with tallies from Paizlee Dreyer and Courtney Menard. Evans led the Lancers with a goal in the first 30 seconds of the period, and was followed by a Menard score.
With less than two-and-a-half minutes remaining, CBU put together its finest stretch with a four-goal run. Evans, Menard and Dreyer scored back-to-back goals to help the Lancers improve a 9-3 lead against Iona College.
The only Lancers' goal of the third period came from Jessica Castellano after a Gael penalty, ending the third quarter with CBU in front 10-5. The lead ballooned to 13-5 victory in the last quarter as Evans and Dreyer closed the game to give the Lancers the win.
CBU is back in action on Friday at 12:45 p.m. The Lancers host another Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Lancers Aquatics Center, beginning at 9 a.m.
