RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- California Baptist University played two games on Thursday at the Lancer Aquatics Center against the Bears of Brown University and the Eagles of Concordia University Irvine. The Lancers grabbed two home wins over Brown, 9-7, and Concordia, 15-6, to improve to 17-10 this season.
Versus Brown, the Lancers netted goals from five different players. Among those, Valerie Spezzaferri, Jessica Castellano and Caroline Howard scored once, Paizlee Dreyer twice and Hannah Evans led CBU with four goals.
Scoring the first goal of the day were the Bears, but that was followed by tallies from Dreyer and Spezzafferi. Evans scored on a penalty shot to end the first period tied at 3-3.
During the second half, Evans scored for the second time within the first three minutes. The Bears responded, but with less than three minutes remaining Evans netted a goal to give the Lancers a 5-4 lead.
As the third quarter came to an end, the Lancers took a 7-5 lead against, thanks to Dreyer and Castellano teaming up to score two goals with less than three minutes remaining.
Evans and Howard put the game away in the fourth, as both found the back of the cage to give the Lancers a 9-7 victory.
In the night cap, CBU had a productive seven-goal first period. Courtney Menard, Marnie Kavern and Castellano all got in the action, while Evans netted four goals of her own to help the Lancers grab a 7-2 cushion against the Eagles.
In the first 30 seconds of the second quarter, Dreyer scored for the first time, but that was quickly followed by an Eagle tally. Also getting in on the action in the period was Raine Paul, Kaitlyn Persky and Castellano once again to give CBU an 11-4 edge.
Within just 30 seconds of the third period, Mallory Montano netted her first goal of the day, followed by Allie Coleman and Annie Eubanks to give the Lancers a 10-goal advantage, 15-5.
The Lancers are back in action next week, heading to Azusa Pacific for a 5:00 p.m. start on April 2.
