RESULTS
GLENDORA, Calif. --- After 10-straight wins against rival Azusa Pacific, California Baptist University came up just shy of keeping the streak alive, falling in a tight 9-8 loss. The Lancers drop to 17-11 overall and 0-2 in Golden Coast Conference.
Hannah Evans, Sydney Iturraran and Jessica Castellano all scored goals against the Cougars while Meghan Rowland had nine saves in the cage for CBU.
The Lancers started off with a productive period as they led the Cougars 4-3 with Castellano and Evans getting in on the action. Evans notched three goals to give the visitors the one-point lead.
It didn't last long, however, as APU evened the game at 4-4, but Evans scored her fourth goal of game with four minutes and 22 seconds to help the Lancers go back in front by one 5-4. As the third quarter came to an end, Iturraran scored but the Lancers found themselves trailing 7-6.
APU increased its lead to three, 9-6, but the Lancers continued to work hard for a comeback as Evans netted a goal with 34 seconds left to pull within two. CBU's final goal came from Castellano as she crushed a five-meter goal in the last six seconds of the period, but time ran out before the Lancers could tie the game, falling 9-8.
The Lancers return home on Friday, April 10th at 3:00 p.m. against Santa Clara.
