Unbeaten Weekend

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — It was the perfect weekend for the No. 23-ranked California Baptist University women's water polo team as it went 4-0 at the Tina Finali Invitational.
"You never apologize for a four-win weekend," Head Coach Jon Miller said jokingly. "We put up some good displays and we can be proud of our efforts."
Already 2-0 after the first day, CBU went on to beat Santa Clara 9-2 and Chapman 11-6 in the final day of the invite hosted by Cal Lutheran.
Against Santa Clara, which is a fellow member of the Golden Coast Conference, the Lancer defense was impeccable with goalie Meghan Rowland coming up with some huge saves. She had 11 saves and three steals in the non-conference contest.
"We didn't allow them to get into their offensive rhythm and that was partially thanks to Meghan for her fine performance in goal," Miller said. "We won every quarter and it showed that we can compete with the best."
Competing against Chapman, Lina Medeiros fought hard and made six saves in the game to keep her team ahead. The senior goalkeeper also earned one steal against the Panthers.
"We didn't play our best this game, I think the girls were still celebrating after the first win," Miller said. "We rotated the squad to give other girls a chance to play and they did well."
Up top on the scoring leader boards were two-meter Hannah Evans and utility Laura Kocsis, who each scored five goals on the day. Evans also accumulated two assists, six steals and six drawn ejections.
Driver Paizlee Dreyer put in a selfless performance as she collected seven assists for her team, while adding three goals and a steal of her own. Adding to the scoreboard, senior driver Samantha Banks scored four goals on the day to add to the Lancers' impressive offensive performances.
Heading home to defend their pool, CBU will host the Lancer Invitational March 11-12.
"We want to continue the momentum we have and hope to go undefeated in the tournament before going in to our first conference game against Concordia," Miller said.
