TEMPE, Ariz. – California Baptist University women's water polo improved its unbeaten stretch to 11 games after a 13-8 win over Pomona-Pitzer Friday night.
In the first match of the ASU Invitational, four individual athletes scored the 13 goals. Utility senior Laura Kocsis and two-meter senior Hannah Evans netted four goals each, while driver Paizlee Dreyer found the back of the cage three times against the Sagehens. Valerie Spezzaferri also tallied two goals to her name as the No. 22-ranked Lancers continued their impressive form in the pool.
Goalkeeper Lina Medeiros had an important night in the cage for the Lancers as she collected nine saves and created one assist throughout the game.
The Sagehens fall to a 5-8 record while the Lancers improve to 17-5 with a .773 winning percentage. CBU currently boasts a 10-3 record when playing in a neutral field and hopes it can continue momentum as it plays against competitively strong opponents.
Saturday is the final day of the ASU Invitational where the Lancers will take on Marist College in the morning (9:00 a.m.) before challenging host No. 9-ranked Arizona State at 1:30 p.m.
