Little Rock, Ark. – Career nights from sophomores Ty Rowell and Milan Acquaah was not enough California Baptist University, as it fell to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-4), 115-107, in a triple-overtime thriller at Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock on Friday afternoon. The Lancers (2-3) received a career-high of 21 points, on 5-of-10 shooting from three-point range, from Rowell, and a career-high 26 points while in a Lancer uniform by Acquaah in the game.
Acquaah, a transfer from Washington State, led the way for CBU shooting 10-of-14 from the field while adding five rebounds, three assists and two steals to his performance. However, Acquaah posted those totals prior to fouling out with 6:13 left in regulation when the Lancers held a 67-66 lead.
CBU was trailing late in regulation after UAPB's Martaveous McKnight scored a couple of free throws to put the Golden Lions up 77-75 with 28 seconds remaining. CBU's De'jon Davis was fouled on a three-point attempt with 10 seconds left, sending him to the free-throw line with an opportunity to give the Lancers the lead. Davis knocked down all three shots at the charity stripe to put CBU in control.
However, the Lancers were whistled for a foul with two seconds left putting UAPB's McKnight on the line for a pair of free throws. McKnight missed his first shot, but was able to convert on the second attempt to tie the game at 78-78.
CBU used a 30-second timeout to set up a chance at heroics. The Lancers inbounded the ball, giving Jordan Heading a look from half-court that hit off the front of the rim as time expired to send the game to overtime.
In the first overtime, the Lancers trailed by five with 2:39 on the clock. Heading converted on a layup to cut the deficit to 85-82 with 1:46 left. CBU was able to get a stop on the defensive end which was followed by a three-point play by Zach Pirog after he was fouled on a layup with 53 seconds remaining. Pirog was able to make the free throw to tie the game at 85-85. The Lancers would have the last shot at the end of overtime, but was unable to convert as time expired.
In the second overtime, it was the Rowell show. The Lancers trailed by six points with 22 seconds remaining, but were able to send the game into a third overtime thanks in large part to Rowell hitting three treys in the final 73 seconds of the overtime period.
However, good fortune would run out for the Lancers in the third overtime. CBU was in severe foul trouble with seven players fouled out, including all five starters. UAPB would outscore the Lancers 17-9 in the final stanza to win the game 115-107.
The game featured the highest combined point total in the history of Jack Stephens Center located on the campus of Little Rock dating back to 2005. The previous high was 182 on three occasions.
CBU will face Howard on Saturday at 11 a.m.

We're headed to OT after a Lancer foul that put UAPB at the line. UAPB missed the first, made the second to make it 78-78. Heading just missed a shot at the buzzer. #LanceUp pic.twitter.com/gD5PIXafwJ
