WAIPAHU, Hawaii – Andrew Bash burned Hawaii Pacific at the plate and on the mound in a 12-1 California Baptist University win in game two of the series Saturday. The sophomore logged six shutout innings on the mound and was 3-for-5 with five runs batted in at the plate.
It helped the 10th-ranked Lancers split the doubleheader Saturday, as the Sharks won game three on a score of 6-4. The two PacWest foes conclude their four-game series on Monday at 9 p.m. PDT. CBU is now 13-4, 6-1 in the conference and HPU moves to 10-9, 4-7.
In addition to Bash, Ryan Williams went 3-for-5 with three runs scored in Saturday's opener. Harrison Spohn and Angelo Capolupo both logged two hits, as well, but it was Bash who got the Lancers on the board first with a two-run triple to right. Tommy Bell made it 3-0 Lancers by the end of the inning with a sacrifice fly.
CBU would score the first nine runs of the game. Three-straight singles from Bryce Macy, Williams and Spohn loaded the bases with no out in the fourth. All three runners would score on a hit by pitch to Luke Navigato, sacrifice fly from Glenn and two-out, RBI single from Bash for a 6-0 CBU edge going into the fifth.
An RBI double from Williams, double steal and RBI single from Navigato increased the lead to 9-1 in the fifth. Bash logged his final two RBIs with a double in the ninth after Williams and Spohn started the inning with a double and single, respectively.
CBU had to play catch up in a seven-inning game to end Saturday after HPU scored the first two runs in the third. The Lancers came back to take a 4-2 lead with a four-run fifth. CBU loaded the bases without any outs on a Williams double, an error and bunt single from Capolupo. Glenn plated two runners with a single to left and Bash hit a two-run homer after that to make it 4-2.
The Sharks never let up and scored four times in the sixth inning to hold on for the 6-4 win.
