Eagles Even the Series

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A big second inning gave California Baptist University an early edge in game two of its PacWest series with Concordia University of Irvine on Friday.
The Golden Eagles kept pushing and completed a late comeback for a 6-4 win over the Lancers at Totman Stadium to even up the series at a game apiece. The PacWest set comes to a conclusion with a doubleheader Saturday at noon. CBU takes a 17-11, 10-8 conference record into tomorrow, while CUI is 10-18, 7-11.
John Glenn led CBU's offense by going 2-for-4, while Ryan Williams landed the big blow of the game with a two-run homer. The Lancers also received some good bullpen pitching from Bryan Pope, as the true freshman threw the final 1.1 innings and held the Eagles scoreless, with just one walk and a strikeout.
Concordia scored the first two runs of the game, with one each in the first and second innings, but CBU quickly took a lead with a four-run bottom of the second. Glenn notched CBU's first hit of the game with a lead-off single up the middle in the inning.
Two batters later, Williams blasted his fifth home run of the season and 27th of his career to move up to No. 9 in CBU's career records book. He got all of it, sending it well over the netting in left field and over to the softball field.
Billy Rockefeller then drew a five-pitch walk, moved up to second on a passed ball and then came home on a single to right field from Bryce Macy. The Eagles' fielder misplayed the ball, allowing Macy to go all the way to third and then score on a double from Luke Navigato to give CBU a 4-2 lead.
Concordia kept chipping away, with runs in the fourth and seventh tying the game, 4-4. Two more Eagles runs in the eighth capped the scoring and secured them the win.
