Wednesday's contest against the Coyotes marks the third straight home game for the Lancers and the first meeting between the two programs.
South Dakota is 5-1 on the season, and its win streak of five in a row was recently snapped on Nov. 22, when the Coyotes lost to Arkansas, 77-56.
The Lancers enter the game at 3-3 on the season and are currently led by redshirt junior Ferron Flavors Jr. Through six games, Flavors is leading the team in scoring with an average of 15.7 points per game. Milan Acquaah, who entered the 2019-20 season as the WAC Preseason Player of the Year, is right behind Flavors with an average of 15.0 points per game. From deep, Flavors is shooting 44.7 percent, which is the third-best in the WAC. Tre Armstrong is the current WAC and team leader from behind the arc, as the freshman is shooting 53.8 percent from the 3-point line.
Notables:
- Head Coach Todd Lee is in his second season at the helm of the program after finishing 18-17 in his first year.
- The Coyotes were selected to finish second in the Preseason Summit League poll for the third straight season.
- Before the loss to Arkansas, USD had made 47-of-92 three-pointers through five games for 51 percent, which is nearly four percent better than every other NCAA Div. I team.
- The Coyotes are led by Tyler Hagedorn (18.7ppg), Stanley Umude (15.8ppg), and Triston Simpson (12.5ppg).
- Umude became the first Coyote to be selected as the Preseason Summit League Player of the Year for the 2019-20 season.
- Simpson joined Umude on the preseason list as a First Team member, while Hagedorn was named Second Team.
- USD was the lone Summit League member with a trio of preseason selections.
