Defense Key in Seattle Road Win

SEATTLE – The California Baptist defense held Seattle U (13-10; 1-7 WAC) under 35-percent shooting in the second half en route to a 75-64 road win in Western Athletic Conference action at the Redhawk Center on Saturday night.
Jordan Heading led the way for the Lancers with a team-high 22 points, including three treys along with six rebounds.
Seattle jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game. The Redhawks extended their lead to eight points making it 18-10 after the first eight minutes of the contest. With Seattle up 23-15 with 8:40 on the clock, CBU used a 9-0 run to take the lead at 24-23 over an 80-second span that ended with a De'jon Davis dunk in transition.
In the second half, California Baptist locked down the Redhawks on the defensive end, holding them to 10-of-29 shooting (34.5%) from the field. The two teams traded baskets for the first eight minutes of the second half with scored knotted at 46-46. The Lancers exploded for an 11-0 run that created enough separation to give them the lead for good at 57-46 with 9:25 on the clock. Seattle would cut the lead to seven a couple times, but CBU made defensive stops while making timely baskets down the stretch to snatch the 75-64 road victory.
Milan Acquaah, the leading scorer in the WAC with 21.4 ppg, posted 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal for the Lancers. Davis tallied his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Henn, a Bellevue, Wash., product, finished with nine points.
Terrell Brown scored a game-high 24 points for Seattle. Mattia Da Campo added 13 points while Myles Carter was limited to 12 points on 5-of-16 shooting.
The Lancers (11-10; 3-5 WAC) will return home for a three-game home stand starting on Thursday against Chicago State. CBU will host UMKC on Saturday as part of Homecoming Weekend. The game will be televised on Fox Sports West.
