RIVERSIDE, Calif. – As the only team in NCAA Division I with nine wins, undefeated California Baptist University is starting to get noticed already. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association has the Lancers receiving votes in its most recent Top-30 poll, which was released on Monday.
CBU's 5-0 run through last week, which included a sweep of Ohio and a Power 5 win over Kansas State, wound up turning a lot of heads come Monday. Baseball America picked the Lancers as a program standout, and WarrenNolan.com ranked CBU 36th in its live Rating Percentage Index (RPI) report. RPI ranks teams based on its wins and losses and strength of schedule.
In addition to Angel Delgado being named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, Angelo Capolupo was in the running for WAC Top Play Nominee for an amazing play at shortstop during the Kansas State game.
CBU plays three games against cross-town opponent UC Riverside this weekend. The Highlanders host the opener and finale on Friday and Sunday at 6 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, with the Lancers hosting the middle game at Totman Stadium Saturday at 4 p.m.
