Lancers Split Day Two of Cross Conference Challenge

TEMPE, Ariz. – California Baptist University ended Arizona State's Cross Conference Challenge and week three of the season with its sixth game against a top-10 ranked team and its fourth win of the year.
The 24th-ranked Lancers defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 10-5, in the morning and then fell to seventh-ranked Arizona State, 13-2. Krista Krantz led CBU's offense with five goals on the day, while Katie Fugit and Kira O'Donell had three scores each over both games.
In the win over CSUMB, Krantz scored four times, drew two ejections and had two steals. Fugit had an all-around game, as well, with three goals, an assist and two steals. O'Donell tallied two goals, while goalie Megan Rocha had eight saves on 13 shots for a save percentage of 61.5.
CBU started the game on a 5-1 run. Krantz had the first two goals of the game, while O'Donell and Lizette Perez scored before the end of the first quarter.
Fugit notched her first goal in the second quarter to make it 5-1 with 5:31 left in the first half. Two more goals from Krantz made it a five-goal lead, 7-2, at halftime.
CSUMB cut its deficit down to three, 7-4, with 2:18 left in the third, but the Lancers scored the next three goals. Two scores from Fugit and then O'Donell's second of the game made it a 10-4 lead with five minutes to play.
Grace Ramirez put together an impressive game in cage for CBU against a dangerous Arizona State team. The junior goalie had 11 saves in the game, while O'Donell and Krantz scored for the Lancers.
CBU is now 4-6 this year, while the Otters fall to 0-4 and the Sun Devils improve to 5-2. The Lancers have next week off, outside of its Alumni Game on Saturday, before playing two games at the Redlands Round Robin on Wednesday, Feb. 13. CBU will face 22nd-ranked CSUN for the second time this year at 2 p.m. and then host Redlands at 6 p.m.
