It secured the Western Athletic Conference series victory for the Lancers, who improve to 22-12, 7-4 in the league and will go for sweep at noon Sunday at Totman Stadium. The Roadrunners fall to 15-21, 3-8 in conference, with the series coming to an end
CBU got great production from the top part of its order on Saturday. Freshmen Jeff Bruyntjens (2-for-3) and Chad Castillo (3-for-3) batted one and two in the lineup and combined to go 5-for-6 at the plate. Andrew Bash went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, two runs scored, a double and a homer at No. 3 in the order.
Travis Booth and Chris Burica combined to shutout the Roadrunners. Booth went six strong innings, giving up just six hits, one walk and striking out four. Burica earned his first save as a Lancer by throwing three perfect innings to end the game.
The Lancers got to CSUB ace Evan Barclay, who came in with a 2.63 ERA, on Saturday. Bruyntjens singled off him to lead off the bottom of the first. Bash then homered to left field to give CBU a 2-0 lead.

CBU doubled its lead in the third. Castillo singled his way aboard to start the inning and then took second on a passed ball. Bash drove him in for RBI number three of the game with a double to left center. The Lancers tacked on another run in the inning on an RBI grounder from John Glenn after a CSUB error.

Run number six came home for CBU in the bottom of the eighth. A walk and Harrison Spohn single puts runners at the corners. Spohn got himself caught in a pickle at first, which allowed Nick Plaia to score from third to cap the scoring.
There were several impressive defensive plays from CBU in the game. Rory Smith gunned down two would-be base stealers behind the plate, while Spohn made a great diving play in the first inning and Bruyntjens had a terrific running scoop and throw on a slow roller down the third-base line.
