Miller Promoted to Cub's Triple-A Affiliate

| By:
RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- A dominant season at Double-A earned Tyson Miller, a former California Baptist University pitcher, a promotion to the Chicago Cubs' Triple-A affiliate Iowa Cubs on the Fourth of July.

Through 15 starts and 88 innings this year, Miller has maintained a 2.56 earned-run average and .219 opposing batting average and 1.00 WHIP with the Double-A Tennessee Smokies. He also has a 4-3 record and 80 strikeouts to 18 walks.

Miller is currently ranked 19th in the Cubs' list of Top-30 Prospects on MLB.com. The right-handed pitcher was also named a Southern League North Division All-Star in June. Over his last six starts, he's gone at least five innings, and reached six innings five times, without allowing more than three earned runs. He struck out a career-high 11 against the Montgomery Biscuits on June 4.

Back in 2016, Miller became the highest Major League Baseball draft pick in CBU's history when the Cubs took him in the fourth round at 134th overall. It's an honor Miller still holds, even after the Lancers stretched their streak of having a player drafted to 10 years this season. Miller still ranks third in CBU history with 237 career strikeouts, fifth in wins (23) and innings pitched (272.1) and seventh with a 2.71 ERA.

Miller is just the latest in a recent group of Lancers to reach Triple-A. Trevor Oaks is currently on the injured list with Kansas City Royals after spending time in Major League Baseball and Triple-A in 2018. Caleb Dirks is currently on a rehab assignment before returning to Triple-A in the Atlanta Braves' organization, while Adam Hofacket has earned Triple-A promotions in each of the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels.
