#1 - December 31 | Lancers Set a New Department GPA Record
California Baptist University Athletics' historical year academically continued, as the Lancers announced they set new department records for grade-point averages for a semester and academic year twice in a row. CBU updated its department record for a semester GPA with a 3.475 in the spring of 2020 to top the record of 3.415 in the fall of 2019. It gives the Lancers a new record 3.445 GPA for the 2019-20 academic year, which is up from their previous best of 3.355 in 2018-19. The Lancers have now updated their record for a department GPA six times in the last seven seasons. All 18 CBU teams logged a GPA of at least 3.22 and 11 recorded GPAs above a 3.4.

California Baptist University's last five NCAA seasons have been wildly successful, as further evidenced by a recent research project completed by James Madison University Athletics. Over the last five years (2015-20), the Lancers boast a .645 All-Sport Winning Percentage. It puts CBU in impressive standing in the field of NCAA Division I schools, as it ranks top 20 within that group, according to James Madison Athletics. It put the Lancers ahead of national powers, like Duke, Oregon, LSU, Washington, Georgia and many more.

Tyson Miller became the second Lancer in California Baptist University history to make his Major League Baseball debut for the Chicago Cubs on August 17. The Cubs' 2016 fourth-round pick and current Top-30 Prospect got the start for game two of Chicago's doubleheader with the St. Louis Cardinals. It makes Miller the second Lancer in three years to get the call up to the Big Leagues. Trevor Oaks is the only other CBU player to do so with the Kansas City Royals in 2018. Oaks is currently with the San Francisco Giants organization. Over three seasons at CBU, Miller was a two-time all-conference selection in the PacWest and three-time NCAA Division II All-West Region pick. To this day, he ranks third in Lancer history with 237 career strikeouts, fifth in wins (23) and innings pitched (272.1) and seventh with a 2.71 ERA. CBU has had 35 former players selected in the MLB Draft over the past 38 years with 24 players taken during head coach Gary Adcock's 16-year tenure as skipper.

The California Baptist University women's basketball program currently has an unblemished record of 8-0 to start the 2020-21 season. In addition to CBU, there are only three other schools in the country with an 8-0 record as of December 27: Georgia, North Carolina State and Texas A&M. The Lancers are currently on an 11-game winning streak dating back to Feb. 29, 2020. CBU is tied with Boise State with the seventh longest active winning streak in the country. There are only eight NCAA Division I programs with a double-digit active win streak. In the most recent College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, the Lancers are ranked No. 24. CBU is the only member of the WAC currently ranked. The Lancers gained further national attention as they were featured on ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10 Plays of the Day segment on December 15. Senior Ane Olaeta drained a 47-foot shot from halfcourt as time expired at the end of the first quarter of a contest at Pepperdine.

With less than five seconds left in overtime, Milan Acquaah hit the game-winner to send 5,058 Lancer fans into an uproar as CBU defeated Seattle U, 88-87, on Feb. 29. Acquaah received a screen from De'jon Davis at the top of the key and made his move down the left side with his defender on his hip. He stopped and stepped back, creating separation from his defender to take the final shot with less than three seconds in the game. The CBU Events Center was sent into a frenzy after Acquaah made the game-winner and secured the Lancers' 21st win of the season.
