Sunday night also marked the second-straight sellout for the Lancers, as 811 fans filled Totman Stadium for the second game of the Crosstown Showdown. A record 1,240 fans came out for the series and home opener on Friday.
Four pitchers teamed up to hold UC Riverside to just one run on Sunday. Chris Burica started and went six, strong innings in his second start of the season. The redshirt junior gave up just one run on five hits and a walk and struck out four.

Relievers Matt Amrhein, Mason McGarvey and Jorge Valerio combined to hold the Highlanders scoreless over the final three innings. The trio allowed just three baserunners and combined for six strikeouts out of the bullpen, with Valerio striking out the side in the bottom of the ninth to overcome a leadoff single and record his first save of the season.
CBU recorded seven hits in the game, with Ulises Caballero leading the way with a 2-for-2 day. True freshman Julian Alvarez notched the first hit of his career, while Chad Castillo, Nick Plaia and Jeff Bruyntjens also singled and Harrison Spohn tallied his third double of the year.
Bruyntjens, Rory Smith and Joseph Lomeli all drove in a run for the Lancers with sacrifice flies on Sunday.

The Lancers (2-4) and Highlanders (1-5) will play their third and final game this week on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Riverside Sports Complex. CBU and UCR will play a fourth game on the Highlanders' home field on Tuesday, April 28.
UC Riverside jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a leadoff homer in the first at-bat of the game. It was all the Highlanders would get, though, as CBU pitching would not allow another run and UCR stranded eight runners on base.
The Lancer pitchers held UCR to an .067 batting average (1-15) with runners on, including an 0-6 mark with runners in scoring position. CBU also recorded the first out in seven of nine innings.
Offensively, CBU was sharp, and started the first and second innings with two-straight singles. It paid off in the bottom of the second, as Plaia and Caballero started the frame with back-to-back singles.

Nick Plaia continues to be a one-man show on the base paths, scoring on a sacrifice fly after singling aboard and going from first to third on another single.#LanceUp⚔ pic.twitter.com/ZzLehRA0p3
Plaia's speed helped ensure the Lancers would not come up empty handed again. The senior went first to third on Caballero's liner to left center, and then scored on a shallow sacrifice fly to right field from Bruyntjens.
The Lancers would score all three of their runs of the game on sacrifice flies, with two more coming in the seventh. Caballero and Bruyntjens started the inning with a single and double back-to-back, respectively.
