Cerdon Records A Brace In Win Over Dixie State

NORCO --- California Baptist University completed the weekend sweep on Sunday, as the Lancers beat the Dixie State Trailblazers, 2-1.
The win kept the Lancers perfect on the weekend, as they improved to 5-6-1 on the year and 3-2 in the Western Athletic Conference. CBU took down the defending WAC champions Utah Valley, 1-0, on Oct. 8. With the loss, the Trailblazers fall to 4-10-1 on the season and 0-4-1 in conference play.
It was a dominant performance from start to finish, as the Lancers controlled the offensive side of the field with shot after shot. CBU finished the game outshooting the Trailblazers, 22-3. It marks the fewest shots allowed on the season for the Lancer defense and the most recorded on the year for the offense.
Karley Weeks paced the Lancers' offense with nine shots – just one off tying her career-high of 10 set back on Sept. 15, 2019. Eleven Lancers got in on the action of recording at least one shot, while Malia Cerdon and Deniah Wells joined Weeks with double-digit shots.
Cerdon produced a career day, recording her first collegiate brace of her young career. The true freshman got the Lancers back on track after a Trailblazer goal came in the 48th minute after a counterattack.
The Dixie State lead wouldn't hold on for too long, though, as Cerdon found the back of the net 54 seconds after the Trailblazer goal.

Amy Aquino would set up Cerdon for the game-winner four minutes later, as Cerdon buried one in the back of the net at the 53rd minute.

The Lancers did well the rest of the game to keep the Trailblazers from finding the equalizer, as the Lancers' backline held off any forward attack.
UP NEXT
The Lancers will welcome NM State for Senior Day on Friday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. The game will be held at OC Great Park with free admission.
