Late Comeback Leads Lancers to Third-Straight Win in Extra Innings at UC Davis

DAVIS – California Baptist University baseball overcame a three-run deficit going into the eighth inning to defeat UC Davis 5-4 in 10 innings on Saturday. The Lancers have now won three-straight games to improve to 5-4 this season.

For the second game in a row, Chad Castillo logged two hits and three runs batted in to lead CBU's offense at the Swimley Field. He hit his first home run of the season in the fourth inning, and then forced extra innings with a two-out, two-RBI single that tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the ninth.

John Glenn also had two hits in the game and provided the go-ahead and winning run with a solo home run in the 10^th inning. Michael Carpentier also went 2-for-2 for CBU.

Jacob McCarvel earned the win for CBU after throwing 3.1 stellar innings in relief. He allowed just one hit and no runs on the day. CJ Culpepper logged his second save of the season by recording the final two outs in the bottom of the 10^th.

CBU trailed all game after the Aggies took a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second innings. Castillo's fourth-inning homer got the Lancers on the board, but UC Davis got some insurance with a pair in the bottom of the seventh.

The Lancers' comeback started in the eighth. Chad Minato drew a leadoff walk and then moved to third on a Damon Keith double. Minato eventually scored on a wild pitch, but the Aggies escaped without any further damage to take a 4-2 lead into the ninth.

Harrison Spohn led off the ninth with a walk and a Ulises Caballero single put two Lancers on with one out. Minato kept the inning alive with a two-out, full-count walk and that set up the two-run single from Castillo.

CBU will wrap up its series at UC Davis with one more game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
