Lancers Showcase Their Offense with D-I Record 21 Hits, Season-High 14 Runs and Three Homers at Dixie State

ST. GEORGE – California Baptist University baseball's offense was on full display in its Western Athletic Conference series finale at Dixie State on Sunday.

The Lancers set their NCAA Division I record for hits in a game, with 21, belted a season-high three homers and scored a season-high 14 runs to defeat the Trailblazers 14-6. It was the first time since 2018 CBU has had a 20-hit game.

CBU won the final two games of the weekend to salvage a split with DSU. The Lancers won both games in comeback fashion and scored 12 of the final 14 runs to overcome a 6-2 deficit after four innings on Sunday. It brings CBU's record to 21-11 overall and 13-3 in the WAC, while Dixie State drops to 11-22, 9-11.

Russell Stevenson, Damon Keith and Chad Castillo all had four-hit games. John Glenn, Michael Carpentier and Harrison all had two hits on the day, too, for CBU.
Stevenson had three extra-base hits with a double and two home runs, five runs batted in and three runs scored. Keith scored four times, drove in three runs and had a double and homer on the day. Castillo had two RBI and two runs, as well.

Six different pitchers threw for the Lancers on Sunday. Spencer Bengard, Jacob McCarvel and Drew Necochea all threw at least one shutout inning.

WAC STANDINGS UPDATE
The Lancers' three conference losses are still a WAC low. Grand Canyon won its eighth game in a row to improve to 22-14-1 overall and 16-4 in the WAC. Sacramento State has lost three-straight games, with a 21-10, 13-6 record going into its Sunday game against Seattle U.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Dixie State held a 6-2 lead through four innings on Sunday, but the Lancers' offense caught fire from that point on. CBU scored a run in each of the last five innings and had four multi-run innings.

Stevenson's two-run homer in the fifth made it 6-4, and CBU took the lead with a three-run sixth that featured an RBI from Keith and two-run single from Castillo.

Mitchel Simon added an insurance run with an RBI single in the seventh and Stevenson hit his second two-run homer in the eighth to make it 10-6. Keith and Glenn added RBI singles in the ninth before Nick Plaia capped CBU's scoring with a two-run double.

UP NEXT
CBU's 11-game road trip has come to an end, as the Lancers will return to Totman Stadium for the first time in almost a month for a WAC series with Utah Valley next week. Friday's first pitch is at 6 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. before Sunday's finale at noon.
