Offense Fuels CBU to Fifth WAC Series Sweep of the Season at NM State

The Lancers have now won 10-straight games on the road and 16 of their last 18 overall to bring their record to 35-13 overall and 27-5 in the Western Athletic Conference. This week marked CBU's fifth Western Athletic Conference series sweep and sixth conference series victory of the year.
It leaves CBU with the second-best active road winning streak in NCAA Division I. Fairfield currently leads the nation in that regard with 11-straight wins away from home going into next week.
CBU totaled 17 hits on the day and had four multi-hit games. John Glenn, Chad Castillo and Harrison Spohn all had three hits each, while Michael Carpentier added two of his own. Glenn, Nick Plaia and Damon Keith all homered in the game, with Keith's going for a grand slam. Carpentier added three runs batted in on the day, as well.

Sunday's 17-7 win matched the most lopsided win for the Lancers this season. The sweep also keeps them tied for first place in WAC standings with Grand Canyon after the Lopes swept their series at Tarleton State this week to improve to 27-5 in conference, as well.
The WAC's regular-season champion will be decided in Phoenix, as CBU concludes the conference campaign with a four-game series at Grand Canyon. The series begins Thursday at 5 p.m. Pacific, continues with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday and wraps up Saturday at noon. A series win would give the 2021 title to one time, while the two would share it in the event of a series split.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Matt Amrhein made history when he set a new CBU record for all-time career appearances when he started Sunday's game on the mound. It was the 82nd appearance of his career to overtake 2005 alum Kevin Johnson, who previously shared the record with Amrhein at 81 games.

Amrhein also ranks seventh in Lancer history with eight saves, 12th with 18 wins and 14th with a 3.07 ERA. In the NCAA era, he leads CBU in appearances, ranks third in saves and wins, seventh in strikeouts (152), eighth in innings pitched (161.1) and ERA (3.07) and ninth in batting average against (.234).
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Lancers plated a pair in both the third and fourth innings on a two-run homer from Glenn, a sacrifice fly from Russell Stevenson, and a solo shot from Plaia. It was the sixth home run for Glenn this season the first for Plaia.

The Aggies would answer back with four of their own to tie the game, 4-4, going into the fifth. Neither squad scored in the fifth, but the sixth saw the Lancers break things wide open to the tune of eight runs in the inning.
Mitchel Simon, Ulises Caballero and Marty Munoz worked three-straight walks to open the sixth to set the stage for Keith's grand slam. Keith squared up the first pitch he saw in the at-bat and doubled the Lancer lead to 8-4.

Damon Keith is a big, strong, man! His 11th homer of the season scores four and the Lancers are still working with zero outs in the top of the sixth!#LanceUp⚔️ pic.twitter.com/tjmPrMzbpT
A full-count walk to Stevenson, sacrifice fly from Simon and two-RBI single from Carpentier poured gas on the fire and gave the Lancers a 12-4 advantage going into the seventh inning.
CBU was not done, as it scored again in the seventh on an RBI single from Castillo and then scored four more runs in the ninth. Shayne Simpson, Garret Ostrander and Carpentier all had RBI hits in the inning to cap the Lancers' scoring on the day.
