CBU Sweeps Seattle U on the Road to Move Its Winning Streak to 10 Straight
5/2/2021 12:47:00 PM | Baseball
The Lancers defeated Seattle U on the road, 9-1, to claim their 10th-straight win on Sunday at Bannerwood Park. It's the second-best current winning streak in NCAA Division I, as Northeastern holds that honor at 12 straight. Arizona, Ball State and UNLV had all won eight straight going into Sunday.
Dominant pitching and a hot offense continued to lead the Lancers to victory as they improve their overall record to 29-11 and to 21-3 in WAC play this season, while Seattle U ends the weekend at 13-25, 7-17.
Matt Amrhein got the Sunday start for the second week in a row and threw seven strong innings for the second start in a row. He struck out a career-high nine batters – three over his previous season and career best – and allowed just one unearned run on three hits, two walks and a hit by pitch.
Another multi-hit game for Russell Stevenson — we're not surprised 🤷♂️

Russell Stevenson had a team-high three hit in the game, while John Glenn added two of his own. The Lancers racked up 11 hits to give them double-digit hits in eight of their last 10 games, including two seven-inning affairs.
Damon Keith and Nick Plaia both moved their hitting streaks to 11 games. It's the longest streaks of any Lancer this season, which ranks a game outside of a top-10 streak in CBU's NCAA era.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Seattle U scored first in the bottom of the second on Sunday, which was a first for the Redhawks in the series. The Lancers answered right back with a three-run third to take an early 3-1 edge.
CBU loaded the bases with no outs in the inning after walks to Keith, Chad Castillo and a bunt single from Glenn. Harrison Spohn singled the first run home and Stevenson added the next RBI before Mitchel Simon plated the third with a sacrifice fly.

Both offenses were shutout from the fourth through the sixth innings before the Lancers blew the game open with a five-run seventh. Singles from Stevenson and Simon started the threat, but all five runs came on two outs.
Connor Clift drove in a run with a clutch single and then Keith extended his hitting streak in a big way with a no-doubt, three-run bomb to make it an 8-1 cushion. Stevenson tacked on CBU's ninth run with an RBI double in the eighth.
