CBU Women’s Soccer Battles SFA on the Road in WAC Play

Nacogdoches, Texas – California Baptist University women's soccer resumed its Western Athletic Conference road trip on Thursday night, falling at Stephen F. Austin, 2-1.
SFA's Carly Wyatt scored the first goal of the match late in the first half to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 advantage at the break.
Early in the second half, CBU senior Karley Weeks registered her fourth goal scored of the season to even the game at 1-1.
However, it didn't take long for SFA to regain the lead as Jayme Bailey scored seven minutes later to push SFA back out in front, 2-1.
"We forced and created a number of dangerous scoring opportunities, however, we were not able to finish those chances as we should have," added St. Clair. "We need to show more grittiness and composure in the 18 yard box."
CBU goalkeeper Noa Schumacher finished the game with nine saves, her second most saves in a single match this season. SFA goalie Lydia Sattler also registered nine saves on the night.
The Lancers dropped to 5-3-2 overall and 2-2 in league play, while SFA improved to 4-7-1 on the year with a 3-2 WAC record.
"We knew this was going to be a difficult two-game road trip with the vast travel it was going to require," said St. Clair. "I thought we played well. However, the game came down to the margins as most games do. We played very well and controlled much of the game. It just came down to who capitalized on the other teams mistakes. Unfortunately, we had two mistakes all game that resulted in an opportunity for our opponent on goal and they converted those chances."
Next up for the Lancers is a third straight WAC road match when they take on UT Rio Grande Valley on Sunday at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
"We're disappointed, however, we'll learn from this game and prepare for our next match on Sunday," said St. Clair.
