
CBU Sweeps Doubleheader at Tina Finali Invitational

The Lancers defeated host Cal Lutheran 12-10 and then knocked off CSU Monterey Bay 8-4. California Baptist improves to 7-9 on the season as winners of four of its five, while CLU moves to 3-3 and CSUMB to 1-10.
Kira O'Donell continued her amazing season with hat tricks in both games and a total of nine points (seven goals, two assists) on the day. The senior attacker moved into fifth place in CBU's list of all-time goal scorers with 236 in her career. She's one point off top-five standing in that category with 349.

At the end of the game, O'Donell ranked second in the entire NCAA when it comes to goals and points this season, with 47 and 64, respectively, according to the FOSH. She also ranks fifth in goals per game (2.9) and eighth in points per game (4.0).
Madison Gerg earned both wins in goal, as she played all 64 minutes on Saturday. She finished with 12 saves, five steals and two assists in what were two defensive battles.
Jamie Hutton, Maddie Schwegler and Taylor Frandsen also scored in both games for CBU. Hutton had a team-high nine points over both games.
CAL LUTHERAN
O'Donell started out with four goals, two drawn ejections and a steal against the Regals. Jamie Hutton had a game-high seven points on four assists, three goals to pair with two steals and a drawn ejection.
Melinna Galbraith also had two goals in the game, while Gerg logged five saves, four steals and an assist in the cage.
CBU jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the game, thanks to two goals from Hutton, Galbraith and another from O'Donell in the first four-and-a-half minutes.
CLU fought back to tie the game 6-6 going into halftime, but the Lancers scored four of the six goals in the third quarter, thanks to two from O'Donell and one each from Hutton and Vicky Martinez, to take a 10-8 lead into the fourth.
The Lancers never gave up the lead, with Maddie Schwegler and O'Donell scoring in the fourth quarter to keep CBU in front.

CSU MONTEREY BAY
Gerg tallied seven saves, an assist and a steal in what was one of CBU's best defensive battles this season. O'Donell continued to lead the offense with three goals, two assists, a drawn ejection and a steal. Schwegler and Hutton both had two goals in the game, as well.
The Lancers found themselves with a one-goal lead at halftime, as well (4-3). The Otters tied the game about two-and-a-half minutes into the second half, but CBU ended the game on a 4-0 run, thanks to two goals each from Hutton and O'Donell.
UP NEXT
California Baptist will play in the Claremont Convergence next weekend (March 4-5). The Lancers will open with games against Siena and Biola at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively, on Friday, March 4. They'll wrap up the weekend against Wittenberg and Augustana at 10:15 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.
