SACRAMENTO – California Baptist University baseball evened up its series at Sacramento State with a 6-2 win in game two Saturday at John Smith Field.

The Lancers got another quality start in the series, as CJ Culpepper logged his fourth of the season. He threw six scoreless innings in which he allowed just two hits, two walks and struck out seven. Harrison Spohn and Mitchel Simon each had two-hit games for the offense.

David Martin and Michael Carpentier both extended their double-digit hitting streaks on the day. Martin now has a 20-game hitting streak, the first from a Lancer in a single season since 2013. Carpentier has 13-straight games with a hit.

CBU improves to 26-13 on the year and 12-8 in the Western Athletic Conference with the win. Sacramento State moves to 22-20 and 12-11.

PLAY-BY-PLAY
Simon got CBU on the board with a solo homer on an 0-2 pitch in the second inning. It was his 12^th homer of the season, which ties him for fifth in the Lancers' NCAA-era, single-season record book.

CBU tacked on two more runs in the third. The bases were loaded with one out and Russell Stevenson drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Carpentier added another as he extended his hitting streak to 13 games with an RBI single.

The Lancers struck for three more runs in the seventh. Josiah Chavez drew a leadoff walk in the inning and RBI hits from Martin (single), Spohn (double) and Chad Castillo (single) plated the runs to make it 6-0.

There were highlights on defense, too, as Grady Tuohy made an ESPN Top 10 worthy diving catch in the eighth inning.

UP NEXT
CBU's series finale at Sacramento State will be played at noon Sunday, May 1 at John Smith Field. The Lancers will then play a mid-week game at UNLV on Tuesday, May 3, before returning home to host NM State next weekend (May 6-8).
