CBU Opens Crosstown Showdown with Win No. 34

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University baseball opened the Crosstown Showdown with a come-from-behind 13-8 win over UC Riverside.
While it was a comeback, the Lancers didn't trail for long as they scored 12 of the last 14 runs of the game starting in the bottom of the second inning. CBU improves to 34-20 on the year and UC Riverside moves to 8-43.

Ryan Silva started off Senior Day weekend with a bang, as he silenced the Highlanders' offense over the last half of the game. The senior relief pitcher put together a headline performance with a career-high 4.2 innings pitched and career-high seven strikeouts. He faced just three over the minimum with two hits and a walk allowed.

Mitchel Simon led the offense with four hits and four runs batted in. He also scored twice and had a double.
David Martin also had three hits, two runs scored, an RBI and a double. Jake Skipworth and Harrison Spohn each had two hits. Spohn had two RBI and a double for his NCAA Division I leading 27th double of the year.𝑯𝑬'𝑺 𝑶𝑵 🔥

UC Riverside had the momentum early, as it scored six in the first two innings, with the help of a grand slam. CBU chipped away at the deficit and tied the game at 6-6 in the third.
A sacrifice fly from Russell Stevenson got CBU on the board after a lead-off single from David Martin in the first. The Lancers scored four runs in the second after doubles from Martin and Chad Castillo, a two-run single from Harrison Spohn and RBIs from Stevenson (groundout) and Michael Carpentier (single). Martin tied the game with his third hit, an RBI single in the third.

The Lancers took their first lead of the game, 8-6, on a two-run single from Mitchel Simon in the fourth. Two more CBU runs scored in the sixth on another RBI single from Simon and bases-loaded walk to pinch hitter Josiah Chavez.
California Baptist took a 13-6 lead with three more runs in the eighth. Skipworth led off the inning with a homer and an RBI double and single from Simon and pinch hitter Jake Brown capped the scoring for the Lancers.

The Lancers and Highlanders will continue their season-ending series at the Riverside Sports Complex on Friday at 6 p.m. The season will wrap up back at Totman Stadium with CBU's Senior Day set for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
