CBU Sweeps Crosstown Showdown to End 2022 Season

The Lancers finish the year with a 36-20 record, while the Highlanders end up at 8-45. On top of Senior Day, it was also Coach Gary Adcock's 1,000th career game at the helm for CBU.

Offense put the game out of reach early for the Lancers, as they scored at least one run in the first six innings, including an 11-run outburst in the fifth. CBU hit five home runs in the game, with two from Mitchel Simon and one each from seniors Chad Castillo, Ulises Caballero and Trevor Cadd.

Harrison Spohn also had a four-hit game on his Senior Day, while David Martin had three hits and two runs batted in. Castillo had a pair of hits and RBI, while Caballero had two hits and four RBI. Simon finished with two hits and three RBI in three at-bats. Grady Tuohy was also 2-for-2 on his Senior Day.
Cadd, Castillo, Caballero, Spohn, Tuohy, Connor Clift, Brett Finnel, Mason McGarvey, Ryan Silva and Russell Stevenson all celebrated their Senior Days on Saturday. Those 10 led the Lancers to one of the best-ever transitions to NCAA Division I. Overall, the Lancers have gone 153-83 and won back-to-back Western Athletic Conference Championships with these seniors.

ONE OF THE BEST
CBU just completed one of – if not the best-ever transitions to NCAA Division I. During its transition to full membership, the Lancers have a 118-64 record, with a 64.8 winning percentage and consecutive WAC titles in 2019 and 2021. Their winning percentage is first among D-I teams in transitions since 1998, with the win total ranking sixth, despite the 2020 season being canceled just 15 games in due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

California Baptist's 110 wins its first three full seasons are the second most by any transitioning team in that timespan. The Lancers' 35 wins in 2019 ranked third among teams in their debut D-I season, while their 40 wins ranked first among transitioning teams in their second full season.
