Josiah Chavez's Eighth Inning Bomb Secures Series Upset for CBU in Norman

The victory marked the program's first-ever series win over a power-5 opponent and gave the Lancers their third-straight opening series win in the division-1 era.
Nathan Hemmerling was the opening pitcher on the afternoon and started hot, with five strikeouts in the first two innings. Hemmerling would finish with six total and three hits in four innings of work.
Jake Skipworth started the scoring with a double that scored two runs at the top of the third. The double made it three straight games that CBU scored first against the Sooners. The Sooners answered back at the bottom of the third with a solo homer to right field to bring it to 2-1 in favor of the Lancers.
For the third stright game, the Lancers strike first in Norman. This time off a beautiful Jake Skipworth double to bring in Masciel and Ostrander. 2-0 CBU.

In the fourth, Julian Alvarez executed a sacrifice fly to bring Mitchell Simon home after both Simon and McGuire had singled earlier in the inning.
The Sooners put together a sixth-inning rally and scored off a triple and single to bring two runner home and even the score. The Lancer defense limited the damage with a fly-out to end the period. The Sooners continued to pressure the CBU pitching staff by loading up the bases in the seventh off two walks and a single. However, the Lancer defense got out of trouble with a foul out and fly out to strand three Sooners.

The eighth inning proved to be the dagger as the Lancers broke the game open with a three-run homer by Josiah Chavez to deep right field. It was his fourth hit of the weekend and first home run of the season. Chavez's homer brought in Jake Skipworth and Mitchell Simon, who had gotten on base off a single and wild pitch.

Ryan Delgado and the defense would bring the Lancers home putting down the Sooners in order in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings.
The Lancers outhit the Sooners for the third straight game with a 9-7 advantage in game three and a 30-19 overall advantage in the series. Skipworth, Ostrander, and Chavez all had two hits in the ballgame and brought in five of the six runs.
CBU Baseball will remain in Oklahoma to face #15 Oklahoma State on Tuesday, February 21st, at 2 p.m. PST
