RENO--- The Lancers were back on the road again to play the University of Nevada in a three-game series. California Baptist split the day with the Wolf Pack, with Nevada securing the 8-5 win in game one and the Lancers earning a 4-0 win in the second game of the day. The Lancers have only played the Wolf Pack once before and split the four-game series in 2020.
GAME ONE
In a back-and-forth first game, the Lancers started strong after tying the game 1-1 in the second inning off an RBI single from Julian Alvarez. California Baptist showed solid defense in the Nevada cold, charting two double plays in the third and fifth innings.
The Lancers regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly from Garret Ostrander and a triple from Dustin Garcia to make the score 4-3. The Wolf Pack retaliated to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, but Lancers quickly responded with an RBI single from Connor McGuire in the top of the seventh. The University of Nevada ended the back-and-forth between the squads with a solid offensive seventh inning, where they notched three runs on the board to take the lead once and for all, 8-5.
GAME TWO
The second game of the day proved to be a pitcher's duel, as both squads went scoreless through the eighth inning. Spencer Bengard tallied eight strikeouts during his six innings on the mound with just one free pass to lead the defense. In the ninth inning, the Lancers loaded the bases with one out. A passed ball allowed Julian Alvarez to tally the game's first run, moving runners to second and third. Dustin Garcia stepped up in the five-hole and sent one out of the park for a three-run home run to put CBU ahead 4-0, securing the win. Garcia tallied three RBI during his three at-bats, and Jake Skipworth ended the second game with five put-outs.
The Lancers face the University of Nevada again on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. for the series' final game.
