Lancers Hit Two Homers in Second Win at Home

Riverside--- California Baptist was back at Totman Stadium for the second of the four-game series against the Seton Hall Pirates. The Lancers and Pirates battled through the first six innings, matching each other's runs, but California Baptist secured the winning run in the bottom of the seventh, and a strong defense held on to the 4-3 win for the Lancers. CBU improves their record to 5-5 on the season.

California Baptist played well at home for the second time this weekend, starting off with a single homerun from Jake Skipworth to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth. Spencer Bengard had a great night on the mound, striking out two batters in the fifth to stave off a lead from the Pirates. Michael Carpentier put the Lancers ahead with a two-run home run to right field. Carpentier tallied two RBI and eight put-outs from the catcher's spot this evening.

In the top of the seventh, the Pirate's offense gained momentum with two singles that ultimately scored, tying the game 3-3. Gary Adcock's team responded well and capitalized on a Seton Hall passed ball to put runners on second and third. Mitchel Simon singled to third base and scored Garret Ostrander, giving the Lancers the 4-3 lead. Jacob Wilson came in clutch in the eighth and ninth inning, holding the Pirates to only three runs.

Skipworth put ten putouts on the board, as well as a home run and an RBI. Spencer Bengard ended the night with six strikeouts from the mound and only allowed six hits during his six innings on the field.

California Baptist returns to Totman Stadium tomorrow, March 4th, to take on Seton Hall at 5 p.m. for the third game of the series.
