RIVERSIDE--- The Lancers finished out the Western Athletic Conference series against the Utah Tech Trailblazers on Sunday afternoon, ending with a 6-1 loss. The away squad came in hot and put up a pair of runs in both the third and fourth inning for a 4-0 lead that California Baptist couldn't ultimately catch.
CBU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth off a double from
Josiah Chavez that scored
Jake Skipworth, who also got on a base with a double of his own. The Trailblazers sealed the win with a well-placed single to score their runner in the seventh and a single home run in the top of the ninth.
Skipworth tallied his tenth game this season with two hits from the box, while
Michael Carpentier,
Garret Ostrander, and
Cole Howarth all improved their hitting streaks to four games.
The weekend overall series win marks the third WAC series of the year for the Lancers, moving 7-5 in conference play and 14-14 overall. CBU will hit the road on Monday to play CSUN at 3 p.m. in a midweek tilt before heading to take on New Mexico State in an away WAC series next weekend.
