CBU Comes From Behind for Ten-Inning Win
4/6/2023 8:42:00 PM | Baseball
The Aggies got on the board first with a single run in the first inning and four more in the second. Garret Ostrander placed a single into left field that scored Josh Paino to give the Lancers their first run of the night. Michael Carpentier loaded the bases after he was hit by a pitch and Garcia delivered a no-doubter grand slam over center field to tie the game 5-5.
New Mexico State added a single run in the bottom of the third to retake the lead but was matched by a Mitchel Simon single home run. Simon tallied his eleventh home run of the 2023 season, keeping his title of conference home run leader. Tied at six, Ryan Delgado shut out the Aggies in the sixth and seventh with the batters going down in order. Heading into the tenth, Garcia hit a single to get himself on base and stole second to put CBU in a scoring position. Paino collected his second hit of the night with a single to score the winning run, earning his first RBI of the series. Jacob Wilson closed out the night for the Lancers from the mound, striking out the final two batters to earn the Thursday win.
This is the fifth all-time series between the squads, with CBU improving their overall record against NMSU to 13-1. Garcia tallied two hits and four RBI during his time in the box, collecting his tenth home run of the season. Ostrander and Simon both put up a hit and an RBI, while Delgado closed out with three strikeouts and the win during his six innings of action.
California Baptist returns to the 'Skew tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. (PST) for game two of the WAC series against New Mexico State.
