Lancers Face UCSB in Midweek Tilt

Josh Paino was walked in the top of the second inning to get on base and was shortly followed by Mitchel Simon, who singled through the right side. Howarth then launched a three-run homer over right-center field to give the Lancers an early three-run lead. The Gauchos responded with an RBI double and an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to cut their deficit to one. UCSB gained the lead in the fifth after loading the bases and hitting a grand slam, going ahead by three.
Simon brought in a single run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly that drove in Dustin Garcia, who got on base with a double to left field and cut the Gaucho's lead to two. Garcia eventually tied the game with a two-run homer in eighth, and after Spencer Bengard sat down three UCSB batters in the ninth, the Lancers forced a tenth inning. UCSB walked off in the bottom of the tenth with a single into left field, splitting their meetings with the Lancers 1-1 this season.
Garcia ended the evening with two hits, two runs, and two RBI off the Gauchos, while Howarth collected a hit and three RBI. The Lancer pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts, in which Seth Mattox had five during his three innings of action.
California Baptist will head to Phoenix to face Grand Canyon University in their final Western Athletic Conference series of the regular season, beginning on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
