RIVERSIDE--- Kaylee Hauck led the California Baptist women's soccer program to their first Western Athletic Conference shutout win of the 2023 season on Sunday afternoon. Hauck's 58th-minute goal was the lone point of the 1-0 match against the Seattle University Redhawks and lifts CBU to a 6-1-4 overall record and a 1-0-1 WAC record.
The match started slowly for both sides amidst the warm day at CBU Soccer Stadium and began to heat up with the Lancers pressing against the Redhawks' defense. CBU totaled five corners and nine shots in the first half alone but could not find the back of the net, leading to a 0-0 score heading to halftime.
Lourdes Bosch led the Lancers offensively into the second half by creating several chances, while Jana Heinen anchored CBU's defense against the Seattle attack. The Redhawks kept working down the center of the midfield and pushed the ball into the corners for crosses over the six-yard box, but Noa Schumacher squashed any chance of goals with several good catches through the half. In the 58th minute, Bosch carried the ball to the top of the 18-yard box, where she slipped a pass to Jayden Ramirez, who set up a perfect ball for Hauck to nail into the top right corner for the lead.

The Lancers held the Redhawks scoreless through the remainder of the match and picked up their first WAC win of the season, tying themselves for first in the standings with Utah Valley and Tarleton. California Baptist outshot Seattle 20-5, with an 8-2 on-goal comparison. Bosch and Hauck both had a pair of shots on goal, while Hauck's goal marked her fourth of the season and second in WAC play. Schumacher came away with two saves on the day, while Seattle's keeper Kassidy Kirgan tallied seven across the 90 minutes. The 1-0 win also marks CBU's fifth shutout of the season and first in conference play.
California Baptist will travel for its first WAC road series against Utah Tech and Southern Utah next week. The Lancers will face Utah Tech on Thursday at 6 p.m. in St. George before heading to Cedar City to play Southern Utah on Sunday at noon.
