
The Lancers Fall in Heartbreaker in Seattle

SEATTLE--- The California Baptist University men's basketball fell in a heartbreaker on Saturday afternoon as the Seattle U Redhawks won at the buzzer 48-46 at the Redhawk Center.
The loss drops the Lancers to 8-7 on the season and 1-3 in Western Athletic Conference play.
PLAY-BY-PLAY:
CBU got off to an efficient start, scoring on five of their first seven possessions of the ball game. The Lancer's defense stepped up to match their offense, only allowing the Redhawks to score two field goals over a 12-minute stretch of the first half. CBU opened up a 29-14 lead, their largest of the first half, led by Dominique Daniels Jr. with eight points.
The Redhawks would close the gap slightly going into the break, but the Lancers would still lead 31-20. The 11-point cushion was the second-largest halftime lead of the season for the Lancers and their best against a D1 opponent. The CBU defense held the Redhawks to 32% shooting from the field and held them to 0-6 from the perimeter.
The Redhawks would flip the script in the second half and go on separate 6-0 and 11-0 runs to get themselves back into the game. The Lancers answered back with a 7-0 run, emphasized by a steal and slam by Yvan Ouedraogo to bring the score to 43-33 in favor of the Lancers.
The Redhawks would take their first lead of the second half at the five-minute mark at 44-43. Blondeau Tchoukuiegno would quickly respond with a driving layup to retake the lead for the Lancers. A Ouedraogo free throw and Redhawks jumper would tie the game at 46 apiece with 1:54 remaining.
With three seconds remaining, Seattle missed a corner three-pointer, but a Redhawks secured the offensive rebound and laid it in as time expired. After a lengthy review, the basket stood, and the Redhawks escaped with the 48-46 victory.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:
The Lancers put together one of their best defensive performances of the season, only allowing the Redhawks to shoot 37% from the field, and the 48 points allowed was their best mark of the season. The perimeter defense of the Lancers has been a strong point on this road trip, only allowing two threes on 26 attempts over the two road games.
