ARLINGTON, TX--- The Western Athletic Conference announced postseason awards for the 2024 women's soccer season on Thursday afternoon, honoring a trio of Lancers after CBU secured a fourth-place final WAC standing.
Jayden Ramirez earns her second All-WAC team award, but this season's honor marks her first time earning a First Team nod. Ramirez was instrumental this season in the midfield for California Baptist, designated as the playmaker while contributing two goals and an assist. Joining Ramirez on the All-WAC First Team for the first time is Jana Heinen, an anchor for the CBU backline who helped the squad to six shutout matches. Heinen played nearly every minute of every game this season, leading a Lancer defense that saw many substitutions to accommodate injuries. The All-WAC nod is the second of the senior's career after she earned a spot on the All-WAC Second Team during the 2023 season.
Rounding out the awards for California Baptist is true freshman Ava Lopez, who stepped up for the Lancers at the start of the season after CBU's go-to center-backs could not play due to injury. Lopez earns a WAC All-Freshman Team nod for her efforts on defense, playing over 1,100 minutes of action during her first collegiate season.
California Baptist has now amassed 28 conference awards during the Division I era. The Lancers will continue their season on Sunday, November 3rd, as they partake in the WAC Tournament in Abilene, Texas, at 2 p.m. PST against the five-seeded Tarleton Texans.
