The Lancers Close out the Triton Invitational Against #22 San Diego State

LA JOLLA--- In the final match of the Triton Invitational, the Lancers went toe-to-toe with #22 San Diego State at Canyonview pool but ultimately fell to the Aztecs 13-12.
The Aztecs opened the game with three quick goals to force a Julie Snodgrass timeout. The Lancers came out of the timeout and scored two of the next three goals courtesy of freshman Madison Haworth. San Diego State closed the period with two more goals to take an early 5-2 lead.
The second period was low scoring with just three goals scored between the two teams. Adrianna Wong scored the lone second-period goal for the Lancers as the Aztecs led 7-3 heading into halftime.
The Lancer offense came alive in the second half with nine goals, including five in the fourth period alone. CBU scored the final three goals of the match to pressure San Diego State, but the Aztecs held off the CBU offensive attack with six goals of their own in the second half to hold onto the 13-12 victory.
Amber Nielsen, Celeste Almendariz, and Delilah Moreno all scored multiple goals in the second half, while Haworth registered one to give her a hat trick for the game. Goalkeeper Kayla Demski even got in on the action by recording her first collegiate goal in the fourth period.
Almendariz led all Lancers in the Triton Invitational with seven total goals and was the only player for CBU to score in all four tournament matches. Haworth recorded six goals for CBU, followed by Kyra Kahahawai, who had four goals and three assists.
NEXT: The Lancers will have two weeks off before competing in four matches in the Indiana Invite on February 17 and 18 in Bloomington, Indiana.
