3/15/2024 3:00:00 PM | Women's Water Polo
RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist women's water polo team rounded out their eventful week with a Friday afternoon win against Biola University (RV). While the match seemed evenly matched through the first half, the Lancers pulled away during the third and kept building their lead to end with a 15-9 home victory.
The Lancers jumped out to a hot 2-0 start with goals courtesy of Aubrey Newton and Madison Haworth, but a solid response from Biola would quickly tie the game. The back-and-forth scoring continued through the first half and bled into the second, but a last-second goal from the Eagles would secure an 8-7 lead for the visitors heading into halftime.
Newton got the scoring started again in the third period to tie the match at eight and Kyra Kahahawai returned to the lead for the Lancers with her first goal of the match with six minutes to go in the third. CBU never relinquished its lead through the remaining periods of the match and outscored the Eagles 8-1 during the second half of the contest, earning California Baptist their eighth win of the year. Eleven different Lancers scored on Friday afternoon, with Cayleigh Carter, Emaly Hutton, Celeste Almendariz, and Newton all picking up a pair of goals. Tyanna Scheinder ended her day between the posts with 12 saves and two attempted shots.
The Lancers improved to 8-13 on the season and will now turn their attention to their third conference match of the season against Concordia Irvine on Friday, March 22 at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
