Lancers Hush the Huskies on Friday Night

RIVERSIDE--- No lightning or Huskies could hold the Lancers back on Friday evening as they welcomed the University of Connecticut for a three-game weekend series during CBU's conference bye-week. After waiting out a two-and-half-hour weather delay for lightning and rain, the Lancers took down the Huskies with an 8-1 win to improve to 13-5 on the season and extend their winning streak to five games.
Lukas Pirko started on the mound for Gary Adcock and allowed just a single run and two hits during his five-inning stint. The freshman sat down ten Huskies for his best stat line this season yet and jumped to 29 strikeouts on the year, leading the Lancers' pitching staff.

After a scoreless first inning, UConn put up the first run of the game in the top of the second after a sacrifice fly brought in a Huskie runner. Unphased, Ryan Kim immediately responded in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot to tie the game 1-1. Nicholas Dumesnil followed suit in the third inning and launched the first pitch of his at-bat over left field for another solo homer to give the Lancers the go-ahead run.
Another single run in the fifth inning pushed CBU ahead 3-1, but the eighth inning shut the door on the Huskies after the Lancers tacked on five more runs. A pair of RBI singles from Connor McGuire and Josh Paino picked up the first two runs, but a triple RBI double from Dumesnil put the Lancers ahead 8-1. CBU pitching impressed yet again as the staff combined for 16 strikeouts from the bump, matching the CBU Division I Era single-game team strikeout record. The record was set last year during a 9-2 win against UNLV.
California Baptist is set to face UConn again on Saturday, March 16th, at 5 p.m. for the second installment of the weekend series.
