CBU Falls to Pacific in Stockton; Hutton Reaches Career Milestone

STOCKTON, CA--- The California Baptist University women's water polo team could not capitalize on a strong first period as they fell to the Pacific Tigers 14-11 in Stockton on Saturday afternoon.
The Lancers fall to even in Gold Coast Conference play at 2-2 after the defeat and will fall a half-game behind the Tigers in the conference standings for fourth place.
CBU started on fire at Chris Kjeldsen Pool, jumping out to an early 4-1 lead to force a Pacific timeout. Delilah Moreno and Emaly Hutton netted the four early goals, and they split the scoring. The Tigers and Lancers would each tack on a goal to end the period as CBU would take a 5-3 lead after eight minutes.
The Tigers would get their offense jumpstarted in the second period, scoring three unanswered goals in the frame after CBU opened the period with a Madison Haworth goal. The 3-1 run would tie the game at six goals apiece, and that stalemate would stand into halftime after neither team scored over the period's final four minutes.
Pacific would turn up the pressure on CBU in the third period, netting five goals to CBU's two. The Lancers would keep themselves in the game with goals from Dora Lehoczky and Adrianna Wong in the fourth period, but Pacific would execute a game of keep away in the final minutes and would escape with the 14-11 victory to defend their home pool.
Hutton would notch another hat trick in the game, but this one would a little more special as she reached her 100th career goal on her penalty goal in the third period. Hutton reached the impressive feat in just her 57th career match and has equaled her total from last season with three games left on the schedule.
Moreno would be the only other Lancer to record multiple goals with a pair on four shots. Tyanna Schneider posted 11 more saves to her GCC lead in that department and added in two steals to boot.
NEXT: The Lancers will be back in action next weekend with a pair of GCC home matches against Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount.
