SACRAMENTO, CALIF--- The California Baptist baseball team closed out a three-game series on Sunday afternoon against Sacramento State. The Hornets emerged victorious with an 11-1 final score in seven innings to avoid being swept by CBU. The Lancers still earned the series win after a pair of wins on Friday and Saturday, improving to 19-13 on the season and 8-4 in Western Athletic Conference play.
Sacramento State jumped out with an early lead after tallying a pair of runs in the first inning. The home team struck again in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead by three, but the Lancers answered in the fifth after Nicholas Dumesnil walked after a ten-pitch at-bat with the bases loaded for CBU's first run of the game. The Hornets limited the damage to just a single run and put up a three-run inning to ensure the lead.
After a scoreless sixth, Sacramento State called the game in the bottom of the seventh after scoring five more runs to evoke the run rule. The Lancers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 9th for an away match-up against CSUN. CBU is currently 1-0 against the Matadors this season after walking off CSUN at home last week.
