RIVERSIDE --- The final run at a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) title begins on Saturday night, as CBU kicks off the 2025 WAC schedule in San Jose. Poised to win the WAC in their final year of membership, the conference slate begins with the Lancers visiting the Spartans of San Jose State.
The non-conference schedule was good to CBU, as the Lancers enter WAC play sitting 5-1-2 on the season. CBU reached No. 25 in the NCAA RPI last week, the highest RPI ranking in program history, and the highest of any WAC program this season.
CBU ended the non-conference schedule last Friday with the Crosstown Showdown against UC Riverside. Goalkeeper Hugo Do Rego denied a first-half penalty attempt, and sophomore Blake D'Agostino scored his seventh goal of the season, assisted by Uly Martinez, as the Lancers left UCR with a 1-1 draw.
D'Agostino's seven goals are the second most in the WAC and ranks 11th most in Division I.
Do Rego leads the WAC with 35 saves, 4.38 saves per match, and is fourth with a .795 save percentage. Freshman Liam Jones is fourth in the WAC with nine points (three goals, three assists).
San Jose State wrapped up their non-conference schedule 7-1-2 and are winners of their past three matches. The Spartans have two common opponents on the schedule, with SJSU picking up victories against Cal Poly (2-0) and CSU Bakersfield (2-0). CBU was victorious against Cal Poly and Bakersfield as well.
Arnold Matshazi leads the Spartans with six goals scored through ten matches. Angel Iniguez, the WAC Preseason Player of the Year, is second on the team with two goals and four assists. Goalkeeper Edgar Guerra features a .774 save percentage (nine goals allowed) through 900 minutes in goal.
Saturday's kickoff from the Spartan Soccer Complex in San Jose is slated for 7 p.m. and can be streamed online HERE.
The Lancers will be back in Riverside on October 9 when they welcome the UNLV Rebels to the CBU Soccer Stadium. Tickets for all remaining home matches are on sale HERE.
