RIVERSIDE--- The final week of Western Athletic Conference play has arrived, and the California Baptist women's soccer program is set to finish on the road as they face off against Tarleton State and Abilene Christian. The Lancers enter the last stretch after another perfect week at home, where they secured two wins over Southern Utah and Utah Tech for a 6-2 conference record. CBU has officially solidified second and could share a piece of the WAC regular-season title if Utah Valley loses to either of its final opponents.
California Baptist enters the final week of the regular season with a 10-7-1 record, boasting a 6-2 conference record. Ava Westlund continues to be dominant on the attack for the Lancers and is being fueled by Anja Jestrovic in the midfield. The duo have hit it off well during the second half of the season and have connected on or both been a part of five goals this season together. On the other side of the field, Mikayla O'Brien and her backline have done a tremendous job limiting WAC opponent goals, picking up a pair of shutouts last week. While CBU has already locked the second-place spot, two wins in Texas would put them in a position to share a piece of the conference title with Utah Valley.
Tarleton State will welcome the Lancers on Thursday evening on a mission to secure the final spot in the WAC Tournament. The Texans have just one WAC win this season after defeating Utah Tech 4-3 at home, and have been on a decent streak these last two games after earning a point with a pair of ties. Stevie Reynolds is still leading the squad with nine goals and five assists this season, but has yet to score in a conference match. Gabrielle Williams is the Texan to watch after tallying three goals to lead her squad in WAC games, contributing the team's seven conference goals this year.
The Lancers will head to Abilene Christian on Sunday and finally return to the field the program knows very well after winning the WAC Tournament there last year. ACU will also be fighting for a spot in the WAC Tournament this weekend as they enter the final week with a 1-4-3 record during conference play. The Wildcats picked up their lone win against Southern Utah earlier this year and recently tied Tarleton State 1-1. ACU has also seen a lack of goals this season, but it does boast seven different goal-scorers during its WAC matches.
After this week, CBU will focus on the WAC Tournament hosted in Orem, Utah. Due to the few teams in the conference this season, the tournament will be limited to just four teams and will begin with the semifinals on Wednesday, November 5th. California Baptist is currently slated to play at 2 p.m. as the two-seed and will face off against the three-seed.
