CHENEY, WA --- CBU's six-game road trip came to an end in style, as the Lancers returned to the win column against Eastern Washington. Backed by the duo of Dominique Daniels Jr. and Martel Williams, CBU put a stamp on the end of the road trip with an 88-83 victory.
The Lancers improve to 8-3 with the win, while EWU drops to 2-8.
Momentum began in the corner of the Eagles, as they flew out to an 8-0 lead before the Lancers could score their first point. But the momentum wouldn't stay with EWU for long, as CBU put together a 10-2 run to pull within one at 15-14. CBU eventually leveled the score at 16 on a Williams layup.
"Both teams had their fair share of road games," said head coach Rick Croy on Friday's start. "We knew (EWU) would be up for the fight in their building and be excited to play at home. They came out with more aggression and better execution."
The score stayed within one possession for the majority of the final ten minutes of Saturday's opening half, but a triple at the halftime horn by Daniels Jr. gave CBU a six-point advantage entering halftime.
Daniels Jr. entered Friday night having scored 31 points in his last time out against Utah. At the intermission, he and Williams both had 17 to their stat line.
The graduate guard one-upped his performance in Salt Lake City, as he dropped another 17 points in the second half to give him a season-high 34 points. Daniels Jr. finished 10-for-21 from the field, connecting on two 3-pointers, and adding a 12-of-14 showing at the charity stripe.
Friday is the seventh 30+ point performance of Daniels Jr.'s Division I career.
"I've said it over and over again, the number one thing that he does is he creates belief in the entire organization," added Croy on Daniels Jr. "You feel like with him on your team, you can compete against the best in the country."
Williams also had a career performance as he matched his career-high of 23 points, doing so on 9-of-15 from the field. Both Daniels Jr. and Williams played all 40 minutes on Saturday.
The Lancers continued to hold the momentum in the second half, pushing their lead up to 13 near the four-minute mark. EWU would not go down without a fight, clawing within six in the final minute of regulation, but forced to foul, CBU put the game away at the free-throw line.
Free throws were good to the Lancers on Friday as CBU finished 23-for-28 at the stripe. The Lancers started the game connecting on 19 straight from the line, the most consecutive made free throws to start a game in program history.
CBU fans can rejoice, as the Lancers will be back in action in Riverside next week for the first time since November 21. The Lancers will take the court twice this week in the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center, starting with Southern University on Tuesday night.
Sacramento State will also visit Riverside on Saturday, December 20, to wrap up the non-conference schedule. Tickets for next week's home games are on sale HERE.
Tickets for WAC home games will go on sale Monday at 9 a.m.
