ARLINGTON, TX--- The 2025 collegiate baseball season is set to begin in less than 10 days, and the California Baptist baseball program has already made significant preseason noise. The Western Athletic Conference announced the preseason accolades and the coaches poll which saw CBU picked to finish third this season. Additionally, Nicholas Dumesnil was selected as the WAC Preseason Player of the Year, adding to his impressive preseason distinctions.
The preseason standings saw Grand Canyon voted on to finish first during their final season as a Western Athletic Conference school, and Abilene Christian slated to end in second, with CBU following in third. The 2024 WAC Tournament Champions, Tarleton, have been selected to finish in fourth, and Sacramento State, Utah Valley, UT Arlington, Seattle U, and Utah Tech follow suit.
Dumesnil represented California Baptist on the Preseason All-WAC Team as the Player of the Year behind what was an extremely impressive sophomore season. The center fielder slashed a .362 batting average and tallied 19 home runs, 19 doubles, and 45 RBI during his second season with CBU. His talents earned him a spot on the 2024 All-WAC First Team, the 2024 All-WAC Tournament Team, and the 2024 ABCA All-West Region Team. Dumesnil continued to build upon his successful sophomore campaign over the summer with the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod League and was eventually named as a 2025 MLB First-Round Draft Prospect in July.
As the season draws closer, Dumesnil's preseason accolades continue to accumulate. The junior power hitter has been named a D1 Baseball Preseason All-American (Second Team), D1 Baseball's WAC Player of the Year, and a Baseball America Preseason All-American (Third Team). Dumesnil has been noted as the number 19 draft prospect by D1 Baseball, the number 18 draft prospect by Perfect Game, and the number 19 draft prospect by Baseball America. Additionally, the MLB released their own 2025 draft rankings, which saw the centerfielder listed at number 35 on the list, which included both high school and college prospects.
California Baptist will spend Opening Day at home as they face the Portland Pilots in a four-game spread, kicking off the season on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Totman Stadium. Season tickets are on sale now.
