CBU Picks up First GCC Win of the Season Behind Schneider's Strong Play

IRVINE--- The California Baptist University women's water polo team picked up its first conference win of the season on Friday night as they bested the CUI Golden Eagles 12-6 on the road.
The win gives the Lancers double-digit victories on the year, improving their overall record to 10-13. The loss for CUI drops their record to 2-16 and 0-4 in Gold Coast Conference action.
The two conference foes went scoreless through eight minutes of action as both goalkeepers faced a barrage of shots from the opposition. Tyanna Schneider picked up multiple saves while keeping her evening unblemished for the time being. CBU finally broke the stalemate two minutes into the second frame as Kyra Kahahawai scored on the powerplay. The Golden Eagles would respond seconds later with their first goal of the match and would eventually take a 3-2 lead, which would be their only one of the game.
Following the brief CUI lead, the Lancers would score six straight goals on the home team, shutting the Golden Eagles entirely out in the third period. CBU would continue dominating the rest of the way and grind out the 12-6 victory.
Schneider was stellar in between the posts again for the Lancers, recording a season-high 17 saves. The total was one off her career-best that she set last season against Indiana, which was the NCAA-era program record for CBU. Schneider also showed off her offensive skills, adding her first goal of the season in the match. Celeste Almendariz and Kahahawai led the offensive attack with hat tricks on seven total shots between the two of them.
NEXT: The Lancers will be back at home on Friday, April 4, against Azusa Pacific University for Senior Day.
