CBU Falls to UTA in 10th Inning

ARLINGTON, TX--- The California Baptist baseball program fell to UT Arlington on Friday night in the 10th inning to open the road Western Athletic Conference weekend. Pitching woes from CBU led to an extra inning walk-off for the home squad, besting the Lancers 7-6 for the first game of the series. CBU and UTA are now 2-2 in WAC play, while the Lancers fall to 14-12 on the season.
Bubba Rocha got the day started with an RBI double that put the Lancers on the board in the first inning before two straight scoreless innings on both sides. The Mavericks found their bats in the fourth inning and unleashed five runs before a four-run lead that carried them to the seventh inning. Nicholas Dumesnil and Ben Castelli helped chip away at the deficit for CBU with an RBI single each before Dumesnil brought in the tying run with a fielder's choice that scored Chris Ramirez.
The top of the eighth inning saw an RBI single from Andrew Walters for the go-ahead run, but UTA retaliated with an RBI double to center field to keep the game alive. A scoreless ninth inning came and went before CBU was able to put a runner in scoring position but could not get him around third to home. The bottom of the tenth was a struggle for CBU's pitching staff after giving up a single and two walks to load the bases. The nail in the proverbial coffin was the final walk of the night that brought in the final run for UTA's home win.
CBU outhit the Mavericks 12-11, while UTA gave up just three walks compared to the Lancers' 10. Rocha was the man of the night on offense, tallying three hits and two runs. Three other Lancers registered two hits, while Dumesnil led the way with two RBI.
California Baptist will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 p.m. PST and will look to even the series in Arlington.
